Croatian regions benefit from EU accession

The IRE-Delegation visited the Croatian member Region Brod-Posavina.
Slavonski Brod. In Slavonski Brod, the capital of the Croatian Brod-Posavina County (population approximately 50,000), the delegation from the Institute of European Regions (IRE) met with regional president Danijel Marušić (HDZ) for extensive discussions. Marušić particularly emphasized that his region had benefited significantly from Croatia's EU accession in many projects.
The majority of funding for school construction, the expansion and modernization of the hospital, the construction of museums and museum projects, the renovation of the fortifications, and tourism was made possible through EU funding. The EU has also provided significant financial resources for the facilities to contain the migration problem on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Marušić explained that this has enabled the police and Frontex to be very well equipped. Nevertheless, illegal border crossings remain a major problem.
IRE Chairman Franz Schausberger expressed his satisfaction that EU cohesion funding is producing such positive results in the Croatian regions.
The Brod-Posavina County is located in Croatian Slavonia and has a total population of approximately 130,000. The region borders Bosnia and Herzegovina to the south and has been a member of the European IRE Network since 2018.
