Election in Hamburg, Germany

The 22. election to the Hamburg citizenship on February 23, 2020 brought losses for the SPD and CDU as well as strong profits for the Greens. The FDP fell out of the state parliament, the AfD moved back in.
Hamburg. The reigning government coalition of SPD and Greens won the Hamburg elections and even won a two-thirds majority. The SPD under the First Mayor Peter Tschentscher reached around 39 %, which means a loss of more than 6 percentage points. The Greens more than doubled their number of mandates from 15 to 33 with 24 % and an increase of over 11 percentage points.
The CDU fell to 11.2 % (minus 4.7 percentage points) and achieved the poor result in state elections in Germany since 1951.
The Left increased slightly to 9.1 %, the AfD lost slightly, but just managed to re-enter the State Parliament with 5.3 %. After a tremendous game due to a long count, there was certainty that the FDP flies out of the citizenship with 4.96 %, but the FDP top candidate Anna-Elisabeth von Treuenfels-Frowein achieved a direct mandate in her constituency.
